THE STORY
The Silver Shadow was introduced in 1965 and built until the 1980 model year. The Silver Shadow II was built from 1977 until 1980.
By 1980, the last year of the model, the Silver Shadow II had experienced over 2,000 refinements through its evolution.
Each car took at least four months to build, its hand-shaped monocoque body shell had doors, boot, and bonnet made from lightweight aluminium.
Powered by 6.75 litre 16-valve V8, the engine block was made from high silicon content aluminium alloy and had aluminium alloy cylinder heads. To guarantee freedom from vibration, each of the eight pistons were weighed and matched by pairs and the engineers listened with a stethoscope for running imperfections. There were three silencers on the engine, each tuned to eliminate a different frequency.
Each car had electronic ignition, a dual exhaust with stainless-steel silencers and an Air injection system with exhaust gas recirculation. Two SU HD8 carburetors with automatic mixture enrichment and automatic choke delivered fuel to the engine. The fuel tank was specifically positioned to prevent rupture or fuel loss in an accident.
Inside the cockpits were adorned with Circassian walnut. The veneers were lacquered and hand-polished to a glass-like shine and then tempered in slow ovens for longevity.
Seats were clad in natural grain Connolly Brothers leather that came from animals pastured in fields with electrified fences as opposed to barbed wire to guarantee the hide would be completely free from scratches and blemishes. Luxurious Wilton hand-tufted wool pile carpets were installed under foot and in the boot.
The door locks were pick-proof, with a power centralised locking system. Once the key has been removed from the ignition, the transmission automatically locks and cannot be released without its original key.
Other features included independent rear suspension with automatic levelling, anti-dive geometry, power windows, power steering, power four-wheel disc brakes, power seats and other typical Rolls-Royce refinements.
The Silver Shadow II was a large powerful saloon and today remains a fantastic British icon.
THE CAR
A beautiful, Australian delivered Silver Shadow II sedan with full history, service records and original Rolls-Royce driver toolkit.

This car is fully mechanically sorted and comes with all known receipts for any servicing and repairs undertaken. All work in each of the 3 States has been undertaken by acknowledged Rolls- Royce mechanics.
The engine was fully rebuilt in October 1988 (reason unknown) and since then 67,553 kms have been driven. Average travel since new is 5,700km per annum.
Recently all accumulators have been replaced, the hydraulic system has been serviced and new supply/return hoses fitted. New whitewall tyres were fitted in 2019.
The car retains its original Connolly Brothers leather and wool pile carpets that show patina and wear as per the photos supplied.
All electrics are reported to work and the car’s V8 engine pulls strongly and the car brakes as it should.
