2007 SHELBY MUSTANG GT500

THE STORY

The absolutely iconic Ford Mustang is a household name – and has been since its inception in 1964. Currently the longest-produced Ford car nameplate, the Mustang is now in its seventh generation of production.

The namesake of the “Pony Car” segment of consumer vehicles, the car was originally developed as a highly styled line of sporty coupes and convertibles and initially distinguished by ‘long hood, short deck” proportions. The wild success of the vehicle led to multiple competitors from other American manufacturers and its design had a noticeable effect on coupes manufactured worldwide.

In 2005 Ford launched its fifth generation of the Mustang and its design echoes the fastback models of the late 1960s. Ford’s senior vice president of design, J Mays, called it “retro-futurism”.

In 2007, Ford’s special vehicle team launched the Shelby GT500, a successor to the 2003/2004 Mustang SVT Cobra. Contemporary reviews of the GT500 praised its brute power and improved handling. The big news for the vehicle was its 5.4 litre iron-block V8 that produced 500 horsepower at 6,000 rpm thanks to a supercharger and charge cooler. Performance was quoted at 0-100 kmph in 4.6 seconds.

Many enthusiasts already classify the fifth generation of the Ford Mustang as a collectible despite its age.

THE CAR

Head-turning and for good reason, this example of the 2007 Shelby GT500 is in excellent condition with only 42,537 kms on the clock. The car looks sensational finished in a striking black and white colour combination, with matching black leather interior.

Imported from Texas, USA to Australia in November 2011, the vehicle was modified to right-hand-drive in April 2012 by the Shogun Car Company in Queensland. Since its import the clutch has been replaced and a new battery was fitted in April 2024.

The supercharged V8 puts out 500 horsepower and you are overwhelmed with the acceleration and brute strength of this vehicle from the driver’s seat. Power is put to the road by a 6-speed manual transmission.

The car boasts excellent stopping power thanks to the inclusion of front 14-inch vented Brembo disc brakes with four-piston aluminium calipers and rear 11.8-inch vented discs that were replaced in June 2013.

There is also a four-channel, four-sensor ABS system with EBD linked to all-speed traction control.

The suspension includes a modified (Reverse-L) MacPherson strut, a 34mm stabilizer bar and coil springs on the front end. The rear suspension is a 3-link solid axle with coil springs, panhard rod and 24mm stabilizer bar, all of which provide a smooth ride. The wheels are 18 x 9.5 inch machined alloy with “SVT” center caps. New front and rear springs were fitted in February 2019.

A Pioneer navigation screen, Alpine sound system and reversing camera were installed in 2012 at a cost of over $ 3,300.

All import and conversion documentation is included along with a receipt file with books and manuals. Currently registered in Victoria and has previously been registered in South Australia.
