THE STORY
After a 20-year absence, the third generation of the Holden Monaro rolled off the production line in 2001 and covered the V2 and VZ series until 2005.
The V2 series was built between October 2001 and September 2004.
The cars were powered by a 5.7 litre V8 engine that produced 260Kw and 500Nm of power and torque. Transmissions were a 4-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual and performance was stated to be 0-100 kmph in 5.7 seconds - top speed was 270 kmph.
The coupes were manufactured not only for Australia but also for the export market. In three different countries, they had different names – “Chevrolet Lumina” in the Middle East, “Vauxhall Monaro” in the UK and “Pontiac GTO in the USA. In addition, HSV marketed a range of high-performance derivatives without application of the Monaro nameplate.
THE CAR
Delivered by Smith Motor Company Pty Ltd in March 2002 and finished in stunning Devil Yellow, CV8 V2 Monaro has travelled a mere 35,000 kms in just over 21 years.
This is an immaculate two owner vehicle. The first owner held the car for 5 years and travelled only 900km in it. The current owner purchased the car in 2007 and has kept it in near new condition ever since – the car has been garaged its whole life.
The powerful 5.7 litre V8 growls through the original exhaust system and power is put to the road via a four-speed automatic transmission with leather gear knob.
A full body kit, steel GT (not fibreglass) bonnet with twin scoops and rear spoiler has been fitted to really set this car apart. The car has also been fitted with an electronic car anode to prevent rust and has PVC clear light and bonnet protectors.
Inside the cockpit, the black leather interior, dash, door cards, carpets and leather multi-function steering wheel are all in outstanding condition.
The list of features is extensive and includes power steering, power brakes, dual zone climate control air conditioning, ABS with electronic brake force distribution, cruise control, LSD, 4 airbags, 6 stacker CD sound system, remote central locking, rear parking sensors, power windows, power mirrors and front memory seats that move forward automatically for access to the rear seats.
There is also sports suspension, an engine immobiliser, front fog lights, trip computer and a traction control system.
Last series for the Monaro and with the demise of GMH and their sleek coupe bodies, these cars are well sought after and will continue to be collectable in the years to come,
