Debuting in 1998, the luxurious S-Type Jaguar had a model run between 1999 and 2007. Described as Executive “notchback saloons”, these 4-door vehicles were powered by a variety of petrol and diesel engines from a 2.5 litre V6 to a 4.2 litre V8.

Transmissions were 5-speed and 6-speed manuals or automatics from ZF, Getrag or Ford. The automatics had a “J-gate” shift that was a parallel gate, allowing the driver to shift manually.

The V6 petrol engines were originally to be used also by Porsche as an upgrade to the Porsche 944.

The 3.0 lire V6 benefitted from Jaguar designed heads, variable timing and an additional 30HP. Top speed was 250 kmph. The cars had independent front and suspension and a 50/50 weight distribution ensuring a smooth and balanced ride.

THE CAR

Originally delivered to Western Australia in July 1999, this car has full service receipts up until 2017 when it was sold to South Australia. A fully loaded up spec S-Type SE Jaguar finished in sparkling Georgian Gold Metallic that stands out from the crowd with its retro styling.

This car has the impressive 3.0 V6 Jaguar engine with double overhead cam shafts and 4 valves per cylinder. The transmission is the ever faithful 5-speed ZF automatic that shifts smoothly.

The interior is in excellent condition for its age with pleated beige leather seats, door cards, console and handbrake. There is a tasteful woodgrain dash with matching door accents. This car’s carpets, headlining and dash are all in excellent condition.

Being the upgraded SE model, this car has a power sunroof, power seats with memory settings, power lumbar adjustment and a woodgrain steering wheel and gear knob.

Other standard features include 16-inch alloy wheels with 4-wheel disc brakes and ABS, dual zone climate air conditioning, sport mode, cruise control, and alarm and immobiliser, adjustable steering column, power windows and mirrors, trip computer, power steering adjustment, front fog lamps and a 6-stack CD sound system.

This car drives beautifully with good power and response, sharp steering and fantastic handling. A luxurious, fully optioned cruiser that is also no slouch in the corners. A lot of car for the money.
