The 964 is Porsche's internal code name for the 911 Carrera 2 (rear wheel drive) and 911 Carrera 4 (all-wheel drive) models which were badged simply as "Carrera 2" and "Carrera 4". "964" is used by enthusiasts to distinguish them from other generations of the Carrera. The new generation car contained 85% new parts when compared to the previous model.

A new naturally aspirated engine called the M64 was used for the 964 with flat 6 displacement of 3.6 litres. The suspension was upgraded and power steering and ABS brakes were added to the 911 for the first time as standard features.

The exterior bumpers and fog lamps became flush with the car for better aerodynamics. A new electric rear spoiler raised at speeds above 50 mph (80 km/h) and lowered down flush with the rear engine lid at lower speeds. A revised interior had dual airbags and a new automatic climate control system provided improved heating and cooling.

Revised instrumentation housed a large set of warning lights that were tied into the car's central warning system, alerting the driver to a possible problem or malfunction.

Top speed was 163 mph (261 km/h) for the manual version with 0-100 kmph  being achieved in 5.5 seconds.

THE CAR

Finished in beautiful Guards Red, this is a 3-owner vehicle that was originally Australian delivered to Melbourne, Victoria. The current owner has enjoyed the car over the past 15 years after purchasing it from Tasmania.

The interior is black and all electric switches and gauges work. The car has a sunroof, two power seats and optional cup design wheels.

This car handles incredibly well, steering is tight and gear shifts are smooth and clean.

Eighteen months ago the car was treated to a new clutch, rear main seal, flywheel, cam chain housing gaskets and o-rings.

The car has all original books and service history and has been regularly maintained.
