Originally designed as a potential flagship replacement for Porsche’s popular 911, the 928 was a 2+2 grand touring car manufactured from 1978 to 1995. It was developed with the goal of blending the performance and handling of a sports car with the comfort, spaciousness and ride quality of a luxury vehicle.

The Porsche 928 featured a V8 engine located at the front - a far cry from the rear-engine design of the 911 before it. As a result, the car achieved remarkable top speeds and earned recognition in 1978 by winning the ‘European Car of the Year’ award. It remains the only sports car to receive this accolade. In addition, the British automobile magazine ‘The Autocar’ described it as a “supercar” in 1980.

Although the fundamentals of the 928’s design remained the same over the course of its 18-year production run, the engine and styling of the vehicle underwent a few changes, and a significant ‘facelift’ separated the look of the vehicle between the 1^st and 2^nd generations.

In 1986 the S4 variant of the Porsche 928 made its debut, with an updated version of the 5L V8 engine capable of producing 316 horsepower, a larger torque converter in automatic transmission variants and fairly significant styling updates.

A Porsche 928 was featured heavily in the film ‘Risky Business’ starring Tom Cruise in 1983.

THE CAR

Originally delivered new to official Porsche Agents Jebsen Motors in Hong Kong, this beautiful example of a 1988 Porsche 928 S4 was imported to Australia in 2012.

Prior to delivery the car was refinished in ‘Jebsen Blue’ - the corporate colours of Jebsen Motors - and it looks wonderful complimented with the cream leather interior which is clean and well-kept for its age.

The car is equipped with loads of features including electric windows and seats, seat memory function, a working electric sunroof, air-conditioning and a digital dash. The electric windows, mirrors, gauges and remote boot release all work. The gas struts that hold up the bonnet and boot are firm.

This car is wired for sound with an aftermarket Alpine head unit, an amplifier and JVC compact subwoofer with Infinity Kappa speakers.

Mechanically she is a weapon on the road – the 5.0L (305ci) V8 engine roars with power through a modified exhaust. This car has a 4-speed automatic transmission. A limited slip differential has been installed alongside Porche’s ‘Big Brakes’ and she comes with ABS – this car handles like an absolute dream and is very solid on the road and tight in the corners.

There are only 110,432 kms showing on the clock and a timing-belt change was completed in April of 2024.

Extremely enjoyable to drive, tight and responsive handling and loads of power – exactly what you would expect from a car of this marque.
