HOLDEN

1974 HQ KINGSWOOD

SOLD

THE STORY

The Holden Kingswood sedan and wagon were released as part of the new HK of Holdens in January 1968 as an all-new body design, larger and heavier than the previous HR series.

The HQ series released in 1971 and built until 1974, was a completely new design when compared to previous Kingswoods.  It featured a perimeter frame and semi-unibody construction and was the first full-size Holden to have coil spring  rear suspension.

It was Holden's most popular car, selling 485,650 units over a long production run and remains an Aussie icon.

THE CAR

This example is an immaculate, modified “Sleeper” HQ Kingswood sedan.

Beneath the standard HQ bonnet  lurks a General Motors 350ci crate engine which has done just over 4,000 kms since installation and sits in a highly detailed, gloss black engine bay. The engine is fitted with Vortec aluminium heads, new alternator, starter motor, 4 barrel carburettor, aluminium radiator, transmission cooler and flex plate.

Power is put to the road via a Turbo 400 automatic transmission that has a transmission linkage kit to retain the original factory column shifter.

Finished in gleaming Sunburst Gold (2-pack re-spray completed in 2017), the car boasts a new interior in its original factory colours. The carpets, boot mat and parcel shelf have all been replaced.

Mechanically this car has factory front disc brakes and new rear drum brakes, a rebuilt Salisbury differential and restored steering column and steering wheel in the original factory colour.

A heavy duty sway bar has been installed and the dual exhaust puts out a thumping V8 growl when pushed. The car has been lowered and after-market cruise control module has been fitted.

Other original features include the venetian blind and registration number and genuine GTS steel wheels and trims that sit on redline tyres. New retractable seat belts have been fitted and the battery has been moved to the boot. There is a CD player mounted in the glovebox.

Original delivery books and service records come with the car hand along with historical receipts.

On Historic registration in South Australia.
