1974 CORVETTE

SOLD

THE STORY

The 1974 Corvette represents the end of an era. The fuel crisis that hit in early 1974 caused car manufacturers to question the value of heavy, fuel thirsty cars.

As a result, this was the last year for the big block 454 engines and the last year before catalytic converters became standard. In addition, all future Corvettes would run only on unleaded fuel.

The 1974 model was the first with a two piece rear bumper. The prior year rear spoiler was removed and replaced with a smooth down-sloping deck.

The cars featured an integrated shoulder belt/lap assembly for the first time and a more durable Turbo Hydra-Matic was installed in automatic cars .

Resonators were added to the exhaust system to enhance the V8 exhaust note.

In 454 guise, these cars still packed a punch and looked mean on the streets.
