THE STORY
Launched in October 1973, Ford’s XB Falcon represented a refinement of the popular XA model.
All XBs got new bumper bars with a honeycomb designed grille and the front indicators were moved up under the bonnet.
The GS and GT models were endowed with a new bonnet that sported two large, recessed scoops which, along with the split grille, gave the Ford a more aggressive look.
There were five engine options, with the 351ci V8 being the pinnacle. Many options were available including sunroof, variable ratio power steering, limited slip differential and reclining bucket seats.
Allan Moffat took out the Australian Touring Car Championship in 1976 and 1977 driving an XB Hardtop.
THE CAR
On original survivor car with only 2 owners and 91,000 miles travelled.
Manufactured in December 1973 and finished in Polar White with black interior, the driveline is all original with the 351ci V8 mated to the car’s synchro 4-speed top loader manual gearbox.
The original owner ordered a rare GS with 351ci K code engine and optioned it up to near GT specification so as to have the Ford GT experience without the high insurance costs of the mid-1970s.
A letter from Ford Australia sets out the options included on the car including front disc power brakes, reclining bucket seats, sports console, limited slip differential, GS Rallye Pack, driving lights, dual exhaust system, remote boot release and sports handling package.
The current owner has undertaken the following work over his 10 year period of ownership: new radiator, new brake booster, new engine and gearbox mounts, restored wheels with chrome inserts and 4 new tyres, new steering wheel (original wheel goes with the car), The car was last serviced in December 2022.
There is a crack in the dash and the fuel gauge, clock and after-market radio do not work.
The car has good power and the ride is extremely smooth with the sports handling package.
A fantastic piece of Australian automotive history.
