THE STORY

Produced between 1968 and 1976, the Cobra GT is a derivative of the Ford Torino which was named after the Italian city of 'Turin' - considered to be 'The Italian Detroit'. Originally a redesign from Ford's intermediate Fairlane line of vehicles, the Torino was larger tougher, and sported the addition of the two-door fastback "SportsRoof" bodystyle.

Most of Ford's literature at the time simply referred to the vehicles as 'Cobras' due the lack of Fairlane or Torino nameplates present on the vehicles.

While most Torinos were conventional cars, some high-performance versions of the vehicle were created by fitting them with large and powerful engines such as the V8 428ci and 429ci (7.0 L) Cobra Jet.

Classified as muscle cars, these variants of the Torino were chosen by Ford to be the base for their NASCAR entrants and have a wildly successful racing heritage.

THE CAR

Imported in 2020, this Cobra GT's gorgeous Indian Fire paint is contrasted by its black-knit vinyl bucket seats and looks stunning under the Australian sun. It is one of only 180 with this paint and trim combination.

The car is equipped with the powerful 428-4V Cobra Jet V-8 engine coupled to an automatic gearbox.  The power steering is light and responsive, the ride quality is excellent and the power front disc brakes are tight.

The car has a working radio, a functional rear demister in the expansive back parcel shelf, the car’s guards are date stamped and she is running a 3:1 highway differential.

The original Ford rims are available to be sold with the car.
