In April 1964, Ford introduced the Mustang, the most successful model launch for Ford since the Model A. All sales records were smashed with 22,000 cars being sold on the first day. Within a year, 418,812 Mustangs were sitting in driveways throughout North America.

The car created the “Pony Car” class of American muscle cars, affordable sporty cars with long hoods and short rear decks and despite large production numbers, less than 5 percent of the first generation of Mustangs (1964-1966) remain in unmodified condition today.

Officially introduced in 1965, the Mustang Fastback was a sporty variant on the original hard top coupe. Introduced in a 2+2 format, the car had a fold down rear seat and functional air vents in the rear. In  1966 only 6% of all Mustangs produced were Fastbacks.

THE CAR

This is a beautiful example of a stunning, genuine A Code Fastback.

Powered by its original 289ci (225HP) engine with 4V carburettor, power is put to the road by a correct 4 speed top loader gearbox. An engine dress up kit has been added including “Mustang Powered by Ford” finned rocker covers and a chrome Monte Carlo bar.

Finished in sparkling Candy Apple Red, this car has a standard black vinyl interior. The dash, carpets, door cards, headlining and seats are all in excellent condition.

Optioned with chrome trumpeted exhaust tips that exit through the rear valance, the car sits on sparkling 14” styled steel wheels with red centre caps and new BF Goodrich white letter tyres. A full-sized spare wheel of the same caliber is in the trunk.

The car has front disc brakes, fog lights and a retro digital radio has replaced the original unit.
