This is a first year, first series car produced early in 1964. It is the first GTO.

This GTO is considered by many to be the car that started the "Muscle Car" movement with the three other major manufacturers scrambling to catch up when it was released.

In early 1963 General Motor's management banned all divisions from auto racing, so Pontiac turned to street performance. The Pontiac Tempest was transformed into a "Grand Tempest Option" or "GTO" by adding the larger 389ci V8, 4 speed sports transmission, Safe-T-Track limited slip differential, larger sway bars, wider wheels with redline tyres and a heavy-duty ride and handling package.

The 1964 GTO is the only year to have the horizontal headlights rather than the "stacked" headlights of later model years. It is one of the fastest cars ever made by Pontiac. It weighs only 1,600kg.


The car on offer is immaculate and has been treated to a full body off nut and bolt restoration to original specifications. It has its original sheet metal, original 389ci engine, transmission and drivetrain.

The car is 100% numbers matching, has a copy of its original build sheet and is PHS verified.

No expense has been spared in the restoration of this vehicle.

The paint is the rare Gulfstream Blue and has a mirror finish. The original interior trim is the matching Dark Aqua colour.

The car is optioned with the 389ci Tri-Power engine [3 x 2 barrel Rochester 2G carburettors] that easily produces the factory rated 348hp.

The engine is incredibly strong and smooth with awesome power and torque. Pontiac claimed 0-100 in 5.7 sec. when it was produced.

The transmission is the 4-speed wide ratio manual gearbox option with original Hurst shifter that changes effortlessly. The limited slip Safe-T-Track differential puts the power to the road.

The vehicle sports new original style new cross ply redline tyres (including the spare), has its original hubcaps, radio and dash. This car has its original tacho which was a factory option as per the build sheet.

The engine bay and underbody are spotless and have been correctly marked with factory paint marks and stickers. The car is adorned with radiator, radio and steering wheel tags as if straight from the factory.

The original factory brakes are outstanding, have been re-lined and pull up straight and hard.

This is a turn key car, and as the Grand Daddy of all Muscle Cars, a must for the SERIOUS muscle car or Pontiac collector.
