1964 FALCON FUTURA

SOLD

THE STORY

Introduced September 2, 1959, the Ford Falcon is a front-engine, rear-drive six passenger compact car produced from 1959 to 1970 across three generations. A sales success for Ford initially, the Falcon outsold contemporary rivals from Chrysler and General Motors.

The 1964 Falcon was given a more aggressive grille and a completely restyled body. The base engine was an overhead valve 170 cubic-inch 6-cylinder engine with the 260 cubic-inch V8 “Challenger” engine being top of the line.

There were several body styles and trim levels to select from. It was available as a 2- and 4-door sedan, hardtop coupe, sport hardtop, convertible, Sprint hardtop, Sprint Convertible, and station wagon.

The top trim level was the 'Futura.' These models included a chrome horn ring, rear armrests with ashtrays, chrome hood ornament, chrome side window moldings, chrome windshield and rear window moldings. The Futura symbol could also be found on the front fender. There were two horizontal sloping chrome strips on the side of the body.

These cars became the base for the 1964 ½ Mustang with the Mustang’s mechanicals being  almost identical to those of the Falcon.
