THE STORY
General Motors designer Harley Earl is credited with convincing GM to build a two-seat sports car for the American market.
Launched in 1953, the resulting Chevrolet Corvette quickly earned the mantle of “America’s Sport’s Car” and the model is still produced today.
1964 was the second year of the Corvette “Stingray” and second year for the C2 generation of cars.
Subtle changes were made to that year including deleting the faux hood vents, adding more sound insulation, revised transmission mounts and the introduction of the 4 speed Muncie manual transmission. All coupes had a three speed fan added to the rear to help with ventilation.
The 1964 Corvette completed the quarter-mile run in 14.2 seconds at a speed of 161kmph and a 0-100kmph time of just 5.6 seconds.
THE CAR
This gorgeous Tuxedo Black Corvette Stingray Coupe sports an immaculate black vinyl interior and is highly optioned with original factory air conditioning, power windows, power brakes, power steering, smooth Powerglide automatic transmission, back-up lamps, AM/FM radio and posi-traction rear end.
The car has its original strong 327ci V8 (300HP) engine and a 4 barrel carburettor and revs freely. A black and red “Stinger” hood has been installed which compliments the new redline tyres perfectly and gives the car a tough stance.
A timber Corvette steering wheel frames the functional and beautiful gauge cluster.
Brand new three-bar knock off spinners attached to new turbine wheels clad in the redline tyres finish the package.
Only 1,897 1964 Corvettes were produced in Tuxedo Black and only 1,988 were ordered with air conditioning.
Stunning car, sporty cruiser, be quick.
