THE STORY
General Motors designer Harley Earl is credited with convincing GM to build a two-seat sports car for the American market.
Launched in 1953, the resulting Chevrolet Corvette quickly earned the mantle of “America’s Sport’s Car” and the model is still produced today.
1964 was the second year of the Corvette “Stingray” and second year for the C2 generation of cars.
Subtle changes were made to that year including deleting the faux hood vents, adding more sound insulation, revised transmission mounts and the introduction of the fabled 4 speed Muncie manual transmission.
The 1964 Corvette completed the quarter-mile run in 14.2 seconds at a speed of 161kmph and a 0-100kmph time of just 5.6 seconds.
THE CAR
This gorgeous Tuxedo Black convertible Corvette Stingray retains its original 327ci engine (300HP) and Muncie four speed manual M20 transmission with posi-traction rear end. An aluminium radiator has been added with twin fan cooling.
The sparkling black duco is complemented by luxurious red leather seats, red interior and new black convertible top. A timber Corvette steering wheel frames the functional gauge cluster.
New knock off spinner turbine wheels with redline tyres and a wonderful exhaust note finish the package.
