General Motors designer Harley Earl is credited with convincing GM to build a two-seat sports car for the American market.

Launched in 1953, the resulting Chevrolet Corvette quickly earned the mantle of “America’s Sport’s Car” and the model is still produced today.

1964 was the second year of the Corvette “Stingray” and second year for the C2 generation of cars.

Subtle changes were made to that year including deleting the faux hood vents, adding more sound insulation, revised transmission mounts and the introduction of the fabled 4 speed Muncie manual transmission.

The 1964 Corvette completed the quarter-mile run in 14.2 seconds at a speed of 161kmph and a 0-100kmph time of just 5.6 seconds.

This gorgeous red on red convertible Corvette Stingray retains its original RPO L76, 327ci engine boasting the highest horse-power rating for the non-fuel injected model – 365HP.

The engine has its original mechanical lifters, large 4-barrel Holley carburettor (specific to the 365HP model), special cam and 11.25:1 compression ratio. It is an extremely smooth and powerful unit.

Finished in beautiful factory Riverside Red duco with white soft top, the car retains its 4-speed close ratio manual Muncie transmission, posi-traction rear end, power boosted brakes and 4-wheel independent suspension.

This car boasts its factory red interior, new carpet, original working radio, power brakes, new knock off wheels and new white wall tyres.

With comfortable seats, outstanding handling and bags of power, this is a beautiful car that is an absolute blast to drive.
