The Plymouth Belvedere was manufactured by the Chrysler Corporation as a full-size vehicle between 1954 and 1961.

The word “belvedere” is Italian and translates to “beautiful sight” or “fair view”. Chrysler’s assembly plant was also based in Belvidere, Illinois however (strangely) this model was never assembled there.

The third generation of the car ran from 1957-1959 and introduced Torsion bar suspension and optional PowerFlite push-button automatic transmissions.

The cars were offered in a variety of body shapes and engine combinations.

The 1957-58 Belvedere gained notoriety from the Stephen King/John Carpenter supernatural horror movie “Christine” where the car seems to have a mind of its own including a jealous, possessive personality.

THE CAR

This is a rare Australian assembled/delivered right-hand-drive Plymouth Belvedere finished in stunning Turquoise and White with matching interior.

The car is powered by its original Chrysler 318 ci V8 (5.2 litre) engine and retains its original 3-speed TorqueFlite push-button transmission.

An imposing vehicle, the lines, curves and styling are unique to this era in automotive history.

The car’s engine bay has been highly detailed and the air cleaner painter to match the body colour.

The interior has been fully refurbished and is a stunning combination of blue and white which, again, matches the car.

All chrome and stainless steel is in good to fair condition for its age and the car’s hubcaps and white wall tyres set it off beautifully.

2023 marked the 40^th anniversary of the Stephen King/John Carpenter movie “Christine” and two members of the original cast signed the dash of this car during a special reunion event held in the Barossa, South Australia: Malcolm Danare “Moochie” (also Heaven Help Us and Godzilla) and William Ostrander “Buddy” (also Mulholland Drive, Fire and Ice, Knotts Landing).

This car is fully road registered in South Australia.
