THE STORY
Sold for the 1979 model year, the Lincoln Continental represented the final evolution of the fourth-generation Continental before a major downsizing in 1980. As one of the last full-sized American luxury sedans of its era, it featured an imposing design with sharp lines, a long hood, and the signature upright grille, embodying the peak of classic American luxury.
More options were available compared to previous years, although the engine choices remained familiar. The standard powerplant was the 6.6L (400ci) V8, with an optional 7.5L (460ci) V8 available in most markets. Both engines were paired with a three-speed automatic transmission, delivering a smooth and effortless ride suited for highway cruising.
A signature Mark V-inspired "Collector’s Series" trim was introduced, offering exclusive styling elements, special badging, and an even more opulent interior. This edition marked the end of an era, celebrating Lincoln's long history of full-sized luxury before the shift to smaller, more fuel-efficient designs.
The 1979 Lincoln Continental was among the last of its kind to feature opera windows, hidden headlights and the iconic Cartier-branded clock.
THE CAR
Delivered to a ‘J Kiszma’ in Hamilton, Ontario (Canada) on the 17th of October 1979, this stunning example of a left-hand drive 1979 Lincoln Continental is finished in classy Burgundy with a matching and opulent Burgundy interior.
The odometer shows an outstanding 18,853 miles which are believed to be original, and based on the excellent condition of the car, we have no reason to doubt it.
The car has the original “Ownercard” (a warranty identification card with a stamped VIN plate attached) and there are also many original records including an additional VIN card, Bodyguard warranty document and owner’s manual.
The 6.6L (400ci) V8 engine and the three-speed automatic transmission still delivers a smooth and comfortable ride perfect for cruising in luxury – whether in the city or on the highway.
The car’s power steering is light and responsive and the power brakes pull this cruiser up with ease.
The interior of this vehicle represents the height of American luxury for 1979. The pillow-top upholstery alone is better than a modern lounge chair and is so comfortable - you won’t want to leave the cabin.
Other features include dual-stage power windows, a working original radio, air-conditioning, cruise-control, remote side mirror controls and an immaculate vinyl top. There is also a luminescent dash and concealed headlights. All chrome and stainless steel is in excellent condition.
A stylish and lavish status symbol of its time. Previously registered in Victoria on historic registration. Pimp your ride!
