1962 HOLDEN EK SPECIAL

$54,900

THE STORY

Produced by Holden in Australia from 1961 to 1962, the EK series was a facelifted version of the Holden FB, which it replaced.

Aesthetically the EK was divided between two different levels of finish. The standard variants were painted a single colour with no additional fittings or trimmings, while the more popular ‘Special’ variant of EKs boasted stainless steel trims along the side, a white roof, a revised interior trim, electric wipers, parking lights and chrome ‘Special’ badges.

Like the FB series before it, all EK models were powered by a 138ci inline six-cylinder engine, commonly referred to as a ‘Grey Motor’ due to its colour.

A Holden EK ‘Special’ was featured in a car chase in the 1982 action/drama movie ‘Running on Empty’.

THE CAR

Finished in Turquoise Blue and sporting a stylish White roof, this 1962 Holden EK Special is a two-owner car that has been lovingly restored bumper to bumper with a mandate on maintaining its originality.

in 2010 a bare-metal restoration was carried out, with all rust removed and the entire vehicle treated for rust. The interior was renovated at the same time and is clean and well-kept – the Grey vinyl seats are in immaculate condition and are well contrasted with the two-tone exterior. The new carpet is in outstanding condition.

On the outside the stainless-steel trim and badging is clean and polished. The chrome is in original condition and one rear overrider needs replacing.

Over the last three years a lot of work has been done on the car with the focus maintained on keeping the car as original as possible.

The 6-cylinder Grey Motor has been fully rebuilt to original specifications (at a cost of over $ 10,000) and the cooling system has been overhauled. In addition, the transmission, clutch and driveline have been rebuilt and all the electrical systems have been replaced or repaired.

All major service and repair work has been completed, and books and receipts are available for the work done. The original vehicle parts have been kept and are included with the purchase of the vehicle.

Fun behind the wheel and an iconic part of Australian motor history. Currently on historic registration in SA.
