2002 FPV BA GT PROTOTYPE P001
$ 125,000 o.n.o.
The roots of FPV can be traced back to 1991, when the English automotive engineering company Tickford began a collaboration with Ford Australia to produce high-performance variants of the Australian Falcon range under the nomenclature "FTE".
In 2002, following the purchase of Tickford by Prodrive, the "Ford Performance Vehicles" (FPV) company was formed.
The FPV brand name was created to replace the FTE name and a restructured range was developed based on the Ford BA Falcon.
FPV revived the "GT" nameplate for their Falcon for the first time as a regular production model since the XB Falcon GT.
The 2002 BA GT sported an FPV specific body-kit which had a strong resemblance to the BA Falcon V8 Supercar, highlighting the connection to FPR.
The GT was powered by a unique version of Ford's 5.4-litre V8 engine with DOHC 4-valve cylinder heads.
FPV named this uniquely tuned engine as the Boss 290 because of its power output. It produced 290 kW (394 PS; 389 bhp) at 5,500 rpm and 520 N⋅m (380 lb⋅ft) of torque at 4,500 rpm.
A significant part of Australian Motoring History.
One off prototype numbered P001.
This car is the very FIRST FPV GT produced.
With sparkling Phantom duco, a 5.4 litre DOHC V8 (Boss 290) engine and 5 speed manual, this is a very special car.
Registered and used by Ford Australia to promote the new FPV range of GT performance cars. It was featured in FPV brochures and driven extensively by John Bowe.
The car's odometer reading shows only 6,862 kms, most of these having being clocked up by Ford during the testing stage.
There is detailed provenance with this vehicle including the original Ford FPV compendium, certificates, brass ID tag on number plate denoting the prototype, special FPV luggage kit, FPV wrist watch, FPV mini cooler with associated goodies and unopened Ford tissue boxes specifically designed to fit the console.
This car has been the subject of at least two magazine articles searching for the lost first FPV GT.
Original videos recording John Bowe testing the car and his reaction and appraisal are also included.
A must for the serious Ford GT collector.
