Aston Martin

1973 AM V8 COUPE

SOLD

THE STORY

Aston Martin began in 1913 and the company has always specialised in high performance, luxury sports cars.

The Aston Martin V8 replaced the DB6 model and was manufactured between 1969 and 1989 and is the first of the V8s for the marque. It is a grand tourer (GT) and each car was individually hand built over a period of 1,200 hours.

The model range included a two-door coupe and convertible and each car sported a 5.3 litre V8 engine coupled to either a 5-speed manual ZF transmission or a bullet proof Chrylser 3 speed automatic.

Series 3 cars had 4 x 2-barrel Weber carburetors which were accommodated by the taller hood scoop than the Series 2 had. The cars produced 310 HP and could reach 60 mph in 6.1 seconds with the auto or 5.7 seconds with the manual.

They were one of the fastest cars available at the time and were produced during the period 1973 to 1978 with only 967 examples being  made.

Timothy Dalton drove a Series 4 model in the James Bond film “The Living Daylights” and the AM V8 is set to be reprised in the new Daniel Craig James Bond movie due in 2021 which will create further interest in these glorious vehicles.

THE CAR

This is an Australian delivered Series 3 AM V8 automatic presented in beautiful Oxford Blue with tan leather interior. The compliance plate indicates the car was imported in September 1973 and verifies the vehicle’s VIN.

A number’s matching car, it retains its original engine and quad Weber carburettor system.

The car has enjoyed long term ownership in Adelaide (some 13 years) and the current owner has spent over $ 40,000 in extensive mechanical refurbishment  over the last two years. Just over 600 miles have been put on the clock since that time.

This AM V8 sports muscular lines and a large scoop that dominates the long, sleek bonnet. A wide mesh grill, twin quartz-halogen headlights and gleaming chrome dominate the front end.

Inside there is roomy accommodation for 4 adults, the leather is sumptuous and soft and the original blue carpets are in superb condition. Whilst many of the Series 3 AMs had a relatively plain dash, this late model example benefits from rare beautiful dark wood grain treatment and the dash pad is supple to the touch.

Standard equipment includes power windows, power steering, 4 wheel disc brakes, central locking, air conditioning and variable horn note adjustment.

This car is currently fitted with later model Aston Martin alloy wheels but is sold with a complete set of original wheels in outstanding condition.

A refined, elegant and luxurious touring package.

Historically registered in SA with custom plates.
