THE STORY

The Aston Martin DB2 is a strictly two-seater sports car known for its racing pedigree and featuring a split-screen front window.

Produced between 1950 and 1953, only 410 examples were manufactured and it is believed only 302 of these were coupes.

The cars had a comparatively advanced 2.6 litre Lagonda straight-six engine with dual overhead cams and twin-SU carburettors (125 HP). The engine was conceived by W.O. Bentley and William Watson and top speed was 195 kmph.

The DB2 is known for its excellent handling and beautifully designed body work. Features include a four-speed synchromesh manual gearbox, independent front suspension with coil springs and Girling hydraulic drum brakes.

The single-piece bonnet was hinged at the front and tilts forward to reveal the intricately detailed and beautiful engine bay. The bodies were light tube frame with a thin aluminium skin, making these cars light and nimble.

In 1950 the Aston Martin DB2 placed 1^st and 2^nd in its class at the gruelling Le Mans 24-hour race. In 1952 a DB2 placed 1^st in its class at the Mille Miglia.

Not to be confused with the DB2/4 which evolved into a 2+2 grand tourer, genuine DB2s are rare and coveted given their sports car configuration, rich racing history and higher tier of racing eligibility.

THE CAR

An outstanding motor vehicle by any measure.

A true collectable vehicle for the discerning collector who appreciates a touch of class.

This car won Best in Show and Restoration of the Year at Melbourne’s Motorclassica in 2014 and it still presents as well as it did back then.

Finished in Almond Green with matching full grain Suede Green Connolly leather. The new old stock (NOS) trim was specifically sourced with the Connolly stamp as it is no longer made.

The carpets are 32-ounce Heritage English Wool in the correct colour for this combination. All chrome and brightwork is in immaculate condition.

Originally delivered to a G.W.C. McCrey in Bally Craig, Northern Ireland – Mr McCrey was the representative for Ireland’s Aston Martin Owner’s Club. He raced the car extensively, rebuilt the engine in 1968 and then put the car in mothballs.

Owned by Le Mans 24 Hour winner Vern Schuppan, this car was imported into Australia in 2011 and treated to a nut-and-bolt restoration by the team at Marque Restorations. It took three years but the car was finished in 2014 - just in time to sweep the pool at the prestigious Motorclassica event.

Subtle improvements and safety features were added to the car at the time of restoration including a stiffer frame, collapsable steering column and side intrusion bars. In addition the car has been fitted with adjustable telescopic dampers and upgraded door strikers and locks.

There is also a colour copy of the original registration papers dated 21^st March 1952.

The car drives extremely well and has a glorious exhaust note.
